Shivta
declared
by
UNESCO
as
World
Heritage
Site,
part
of
the
old
Incense
Route
from
Arabia
to
the
Mediterranean
and
served
as
a
supply station on the route from the Negev into peninsula Sinai.
Shivta
founded
in
the
1
st
century
BCE,
become
part
of
the
Roman
Empire
in
106
AD
and
become
Christian
in
the
4
th
century.
Shiva
was
conquered
by
the
Muslims
in
636
AD
and
diminished
during
the
8
th
and
the
9
th
centuries,
and
abandoned
by
its
inhabitants
with
no
destruction.
Today
you
can
see
an
excellent
example
of
Christian
Nabatean
desert
town.
The
peaceful
departure,
the
remote
area,
and
the
dry
weather
kept
the
town
in
good
condition.
You
can
walk
through
three
large
Churches,
Mosque,
streets,
houses
in
Nabatean
style,
water
collection
system,
winepresses
and
in
the
nearby
a
desert
garden,
an
outcome
of
an
academic
study
and
experiments
on
the
ancient
Nabatean agriculture.
